Tell me about yourself.
I am a mom of six, corporate worker by day, small business woodworking owner at night. I love rescue dogs, plants, and my small town community. I am always on the move learning new skills and seeking new opportunities to grow. Due to some unexpected circumstances last year, I am learning to cherish the moment right here and now, then balance that with ambition and excitement about the future.
How has your photo shoot experience shaped how you view yourself?
This photo shoot was hard for me at first. After considering for sometime, I chose to put aside waiting for this experience when I was "done" achieving my health goals, and deciding to embark on this journey to capture myself as the mom/wife/person I am now to my close circle. The whole experience was beautiful, and the confidence and joy from capturing these memories today has only added to the excitement I feel about repeating the occasion when I do achieve not only my goals-but to capture those moments on the journey with my daughters.
What message would you like to give other women that are going through a difficult time in life and might not feel worthy?
I would advise to catalogue and consider all the joy you bring to others. Measure your path only against where you have been, not against others' progress in their journey.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would say to be less in a hurry for the next milestone to feel joy and accomplishment. Be more confident in the uniqueness that sets you apart than allowing comparison to influence your own inner monologue. Be vulnerable and strong enough to stand for who you are, not putting emphasis on what others would guide you to grow into. Share your light with the people who value it's warmth, and thank the ones who don't for their time and move on gracefully.
What would you tell other women about stepping out of their comfort zone and doing a photo shoot?
Just do it! Kelsey will guide you through every step and you just have to let yourself be open to the experience. Your loved ones will thank you for capturing who you are now-not the vision you expect yourself to be prior to allowing yourself to enjoy the experience. The absolute best part after I let myself enjoy it, was when one of my daughters said that the photo she loved best captured all her favorite things about me-from a smile that makes her feel warm and safe to my hands which she remembers holding when she was nervous or sad.
