The 40 Over 40 Project

Felischia Burroughs,

Age 49

Tell me about yourself and how you feel about being a woman over the age of 40.

I am a 49 year mom of 4 and a grandmother of 1. I am a flight attendant for a major commercial airline. I am learning to embrace my smile lines as proof of happiness and memories of the life I have lived. I am grateful for the adventures my age has afforded me. My love of joy and quest for happy adventures show in the perfect imperfections of me

When do you feel most confident?

When I am making someone else feel joy or comfort.

How did your painful times give you the gift of resilience?

I learned that I had the power to forgive myself for making bad decisions, and allow them to be a learning tool not a stumbling block. I began to realize not to question why, instead to trust I was on a path for a reason. The discovery might be mine or someone else but my ability to be aware and present was my choice.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Never stop because you think you hit a wall, simply put your hands up and trust that you will find the door. You are never alone or powerless but you must trust in your power.

What would you tell other mature women about stepping out of their comfort zone and doing a photo shoot?

Don’t fear what the results may be. The image we project upon ourself in a mirror are often different than reality. Beauty shines from within uncover your candle and trust in the gift of becoming a butterfly.
