Danielle S Freeman
Tell me about yourself.
I am a professional woman, mid-50's, adult children, dog lover, volunteer passionate, family oriented and so much more. I have more to do than time, every day of the year. I do my best to spend my time on the things that matter. I am too hard on myself, just like many women tend to be. I recently had a significant traumatic event that affected my life and has caused me to struggle where I never had before. I see things differently and I get overwhelmed easily, which has only created more reasons to dislike me. In an effort to gain control and practice self care, I found Kelsey. That was a great thing for me.
How has your photo shoot experience shaped how you view yourself?
I fully expected to like less than 5 of the photos even though I know there were many. I am so thankful that I did this. You can see confidence and strength in the picture but more importantly, I can see it. It reminded me that I am strong, I am multi-faceted and I can do hard things. What started as a way to have a professional headshot, as suggested by my boss, turned into a fun, self-care, uplifting experience to remind myself what I am capable of.
What message would you like to give other women that are going through a difficult time in life and might not feel worthy?
Do not stop looking for what you need to take care of you. I started searching when I knew I was losing control/when I couldn't predict what was coming next. It doesn't have to be just one thing either. I decided one thing for me once a week was a good start. I have had massages, hair appointments, time with friends, bubble baths and yes, a photo shoot. Do not give up; you have to be your own advocate, you have to keep reminding yourself that you are worth it. Try something out of your comfort zone.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Never miss a chance to let someone know that they are appreciated. Never turn down the hug. Never get frustrated because you are so busy. Enjoy every moment because nothing is worse than wishing you had more time to do so.
What would you tell other women about stepping out of their comfort zone and doing a photo shoot?
Take the first step. You may think you are just investigating the possible and that is okay. If your gut tells you to try it, then lean in and go for it. The entire process requires you to think about you and women are not good at that. You consider outfits, make up, hair, nails... not all at once but in manageable chunks of time. You get this awesome planner that is so simple yet covers things you haven't thought about. Use it! Then you think this is the worst idea I have ever had, and Kelsey will help you be comfortable. The photo shoot is so fun. It is 2 women, having fun together and then poof... you get these amazing photos. You see them and think "that is ME and I am awesome" We can all use that, right?? I want to see your photos so take step 1.
