The 40 Over 40 Project

Christy Clark,

Age 59

Tell me about yourself and how you feel about being a woman over the age of 40.

I am a Wife, Mother, Mimi, Sister, Daughter, and my chosen career is a Music teacher. I feel like being over 40 is a wonderful age and place to be because I get to be myself every day. I get to express who I am and not be so worried about what others think!

When do you feel most confident?

I feel most confident in the role of Mother and Mimi. God blessed me with wonderful children and now amazing grandchildren. I truly feel like being Mom and Grandma is my most important role and a role which I love! I also love my chosen career of being a teacher. I have touched many lives through that role and those students I have taught have touched my life in many ways that they don't even realize!

How did your painful times give you the gift of resilience?

Painful times throughout life give us the resilience to see things through. It's always darkest before the dawn and I love that saying because time and time again, I can look back and see where those difficult times have made me stronger and allowed me to see that the times are brighter on the other side of the pain!

What advice would you give your younger self?

Be comfortable with where you are in every stage of your life! I can honestly say that each stage has been what has made me who I am today. Lighten up a little and don't be so hard on yourself. Encourage other women your age and any age to reach for their goals.

What would you tell other mature women about stepping out of their comfort zone and doing a photo shoot?

Anything that helps us step out of our comfort zone and into something that is a little different can be growth. It's a day that you can give yourself the chance to be a model. It helps you look at your photos at this age in a positive light! We are beautiful at every stage in our life. Why not capture that time, even over 40!!!
