Tell me about yourself and how you feel about being a woman over the age of 40.
I'm a boy mom and I love every dirty minute of it. I'm a Para in the school district where I help out with special needs students and I also teach swim lessons. About 6 months ago I was terrified of turning 40. I'm not really sure why I was terrified but I truly was. Now that I am 40 I feel like I'm finally in the cool crowd. A wise women once told me that you aren't living until your are in your 40s. So here's to 40 and to living my best life.
When do you feel most confident?
This has always been a huge struggle of mine. I grew up believing that I wasn't pretty enough, cool enough, or even worthy enough to be noticed by anyone. Now that I'm older I have realized that we as women spend way too much time criticizing ourselves and others. Several years ago I stumbled upon a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt which states " No one can make you feel inferior without your consent". Now why should I let others opinions or even my own dictate who I truly am inside.
How did your painful times give you the gift of resilience?
I cling to the Bible verses of galatians 6:9 and Jeremiah 29;11. In both of these verse God promises a future of hope if we don't grow weary of following him. Life isn't suppose to be easy and its the painful struggles we walk through that make us stronger.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Keep moving forward, life will throw some ugly twists and turns but you will make it though. Age is just a number and its true what people say about it, you are as young as you feel. Life isn't ment to be spent on the sidelines get out there and live your life because you only have one. Leave a legacy that people will talk about and that people want to duplicate.
What would you tell other mature women about stepping out of their comfort zone and doing a photo shoot?
You never know what kind of true beauty you have until you show it off. Beauty is captured in the rare moments that we can't always see for ourselves. Take a leap and discover what's on the other side of that camera lens.
